Original 1942 Dated Women's Civil Defence ARP 71 Tunic - Ambulance

Original 1942 Dated Women's Civil Defence ARP 71 Tunic - Ambulance

    BLIGHTY MILITARIA

An original Women's Civil Defence ARP 71 Tunic dating from 1942 which features Ambulance and First Aid insignia.

This pattern of tunic was introduced in the early part of the Second World War for women serving in the Civil Defence and was worn with either the ARP 73 Slacks or ARP 72 skirt. Made from a dark navy blue serge wool, the tunic features four front pockets; a waist belt with nickel plated waist buckle, black plastic Civil Defence buttons and a Polish collar which is worn open but can be fastened around the neck.

The jacket comes complete with its original embroidered 'Ambulance' shoulder titles to the top of each sleeve. A later First Aid patch has been added to the lower left sleeve which suggests that the jacket saw use again at some point during the Post War period. Possibly during the formation of the Civil Defence Corps or for a reunion, the stand down parade, or similar.

Inside the tunic the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Tunic Pattern No. A.R.P. 71' and states the size as No. 17. The maker's name of 'The Rego Clothiers. Ltd' below which is the 1942 date.

When laid flat the tunic measures -

    Chest - 19"
    Waist - 14"
    Inside arm - 17 3/4"
    Outside arm - 23 1/4"
    Shoulders - 15 1/2"
    Length - 27"

The tunic is in good condition for its age with only limited signs of wear and use. Overall the tunic displays very well and is a clean example. The is evidence of where a breast badge has been fitted previously to the left breast pocket. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

This is a nice original tunic with a very clear label and complete with the correct buttons etc. This would make a nice addition to any Home Front collection without a doubt!
