    About this item

An original Civil Defence austerity pattern A.R.P 59A battledress blouse dating from the Second World War and in a size No. 3.

This pattern of blouse was introduced in mid-1942 as an austerity measure and replaced the earlier pattern which did not have exposed buttons. Officially designated 'Blouses A.R.P 59A', this pattern is made from the heavier wool which was intended for use with Rescue party workers, although it was issued to other arms of the Civil Defence. The blouse features large black plastic buttons and a steel waist belt buckle, typical of those used on battledress jackets manufactured in the mid-war period.

The original label is present to the interior and is bright and legible. It states the size as No.3 which will fit someone of up to a height a 5' 4" with a 38-40 chest and a 36 -38" waist. The maker's name of 'Claude Alexander Ltd' is present as is the War Department broad arrow below this. There is also a small cutters label to the armpit which is red in colour and also bears the size of 3.

When laid flat the jacket measures -

    Chest - 22 1/2"
    Waist 18 1/2"
    Inside arm - 15 1/2"
    Outside arm - 22"
    Length - 18 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition with only limited signs of wear and use. This is a vintage, pre owned item however so may have small issues commensurate with age.

A nice original WW2 Civil Defence jacket which would make a great addition to any collection
