    About this item

A very nice original Royal Air Force Ordinary Airman's Tunic which belonged to Leading Aircraftman 769 Wadham who fought in Italy during the Second World War.

This tunic and cap were found with a 1942 dated theatre made battledress jacket which belonged to the same man and can be found listed separately.

This tunic is the standard pattern worn by all men in the RAF under the rank of sergeant throughout the Second World War. It features a complete set of original brass Kings crown buttons, wartime semi-embroidered eagle badges to the top of each sleeve and Indian made LAC rank badges which tie in nicely with the original owner serving in Italy. Three medal ribbons are fitted above the left breast pocket which would suggest it was being worn at the end of the war. The tunic comes complete with its original matching waist belt and brass buckle.

Inside the tunic the original label is still present and bears the size of 9 and the War Department broad arrow marking. There is a faint issue stamp but no clear date is marked, partly because the original owner has marked his name and last three digits of his serial number in ink.

The jacket is in good condition with signs of wear and use. It displays well with no serious flaws but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

Also included is the Wadham original forage cap which is an early war example as it features a white size and date label to the interior which is only seen up until 1941. It is fitted with a brass RAF cap badge and two brass RAF buttons are fitted to the front. It is in well used condition and has various holes along with other signs of wear and age.

A nice original set which belonged to an airman who fought in Italy.
