    About this item

A stunning original 1942 dated RAF Suits Aircrew blouse in fantastic unissued condition.

This pattern of jacket came into service in late 1940 listed as 'Suits, Aircrew' before being re-designated 'War Service Dress' in 1943, remaining virtually unchanged. This example is rare, being an early suits aircrew example which are now very hard to find today. The blouse features the wire style waist buckle sometimes associated with early manufacture blouses, RAF style scalloped pocket flaps, stamp brass buttons all round and a pair of hook and eyes to fasten the neck.

Inside the jacket the original label is intact and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Aircrews, Blouses' below which is the size of 9 which is designed to fit up to a 40" chest and a 35" waist. The maker's name of 'Prices Tailors Ltd Proprietors of the Fifty Shilling Tailor' is also present, as is the War Department broad arrow marking. There is an issue stamp to the label which can just be read as 1942. As well as this there is an anti-vesicant stamp which bears the date of 6/42 confirming the 1942 date. There is also a P.W.S stamp which denotes that the jacket went through the Part Worn Serviceable scheme at some stage.

The condition of the blouse is excellent. It is still a nice deep blue colour and does not appear to have seen any real wear or use. The only small flaw is a small mark to the rear of one of the sleeves although this may come out. There are also some limited rust marks behind the collar fasteners. Overall it is a very fresh example but please do study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A rare Suits Aircrew jacket in excellent condition with a very hard to find early date. This would be very hard to better!
