    About this item

WW2 RAF 33 PATTERN FLYING GAUNTLETS. An interesting pair of modified/personalized 1933 pattern flying gauntlets. Used during the early years of WW2 and through the Battle of Britain.

A good used pair of 1933 pattern flying gauntlets. Firstly and very obviously they have been personalized with the addition of what looks like Leopard skin cuffs. I understand this may not be to everyone's taste, but please know this was most likely done in period. We have seen animal skin being used before in tailored and personalized items of flying kit. Regardless it does look like these sections were added in period, added by a tailor I assume to personalize these gloves. The stitching can be seen on the inside. There is some small sections of damage to this fir, with small burnt areas otherwise clean and presents well.

Unfortunately, the zip tape has split on the right-hand glove. It has come adrift, but luckily the zip is still done up and works fine. Some care and attention should be taken if you open this zip, possibly a small repair could be made to improve the appearance. The other zip in the left glove is fine and again works nicely. The zips are marked by Lightning with small leather pulls. On the leather zip pulls there is some ink stamps, which I believe are the size. They are slightly hard to read but I think they are either a size 8 or 9.

The palm area, back of the hand, finger sections are all in good condition, with some wear. No damage or broken stitches to report. Some light leather oil could help the appearance and soften them up.

Inside the gloves, they are both stamped, but only one is legible. A large A.M crown stamp is visible, and nicely 1940 dated. Further into the glove, there is some sheepskin lining still visible on the back of the hand section. Overall an interesting pair of gloves, unfortunately not named but with their unique personalization, they definitely stand out! ideal for any RAF museum, display or collection.
