    About this item

An original pair of 1942 dated British military Khaki Drill Shorts dating from the 1940s and in a larger size 34" waist.

This pattern of shorts and trousers was introduced into service with the British military in 1944 and saw issue during the latter part of the Second World War. This pattern stayed in service well into the 1960s with the most prolific pattern being the 1950 pattern. This style of shorts with the cross belt waist fastening is now often referred to as 'Gurkha shorts'. Interestingly, these shorts are dated 1942 and the belt system is backwards. It is possible that they are a trial pattern or a short lived pattern used before the standard pattern was introduced in 1944.

The shorts are made from a khaki coloured cotton drill material as was usually used during this period. The front of the shorts feature twin pleats and slash pockets are located to the hips. The fly fastens with tin plate buttons and the waist belts fasten with standard single prong chrome plated buckles. The waist fastens with cross belts.

Inside the shorts the original stamps are still present and features the maker's name of 'SHAH' along with the date of May 1942.

The shorts will suit someone of around a 28" waist and when laid flat they measure -

    Waist - 14"
    Rise - 14"
    Rear rise - 17"
    Inside leg - 5"
    Outside leg - 17 1/2"
    Cuff - 14"

The shorts are in good condition for their age with limited signs of wear and use. They are still very wearable with no major flaws or damage. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A good original pair of WW2 KD shorts which are a very interesting design!
