About this item
An original pair of British Army 'Trousers, Drab' which were made in 1942.
These windproof trousers were introduced in 1942 along with the matching smock which was made in the same material. Based on the same design as the denim smock and trousers and produced in two different but similar materials; these examples are made from the mottled coloured 'salt and pepper', lighter weight gabardine fabric. The trousers feature a drawstring waist and a map pocket to the front which fastens with a chocolate brown coloured plastic button - the same as used on battledress. Both the knees and the seat feature reinforcement sections.
The original label is still present to the rear of the trousers and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Trousers, Drab' below which is the size of 3 which is intended to fit a 36" - 37" waist. The maker's name of 'A. Raven & Co Ltd' is present as is the 1942 date and the War Department broad arrow. Inside the trousers feature the War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'O' which denotes 1942 as the year of issue.
The trousers are designed to be worn over a uniform so they are cut in a loose manner. The draw string allows the waist to be pulled in and when laid flat they measure -
Waist - 23"
Rise - 17"
Rear rise - 21"
Inside leg - 32"
Outside leg - 48 1/2"
Cuff - 10 3/4"
The trousers are in stunning condition with no signs of wear or use. Overall the trousers are bright and fresh throughout and would be very hard to better. They could be described as 'deadstock' due to the fact they have not been worn. There is however one, small L-shaped tear to the rear as illustrated in picture 6. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing however and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn ite which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A very good original pair of windproof trousers in great condition complete with all of their original labels and stamps. These would be very hard to better in many ways!
