About this item
Correctly named 3787 Pte J Spellacy Ir Gds
James was born in 1889 and hailed from Ennis, County Clare, Ireland.
A pre-war regular, he was to enter France with the BEF on the 21/8/1914, 6 days after the first of the BEF arrived.
He therefore earned himself a 1914 Star and entitled a clasp and roses.
Research shows us a wound report dated 27/5/1915. He was at the time with 3 Company of the 1st Battalion. They were involved in the Battle of Festubert at that time.
A second report is dated 18/10/1917 which is during the Battle of Passchendaele. No report details the wounds.
No records are found for a Silver Wound Badge so we can only assume the wounds did not keep him away from the front.
The medal has a modern replacement ribbon.
