About this item
WW2 RAF 41 PATTERN MAE WEST FLOATING TORCH. As used and carried in the 1941 pattern Mae West. A simple floating torch designed to help with visibility if downed in the sea.
This example is a good used example. Complete with torch, cable and battery pack. No major issues we can see, bar wear and use. The electric cable on these very often hardens, breaks and crumbles off. I believe this has most likely happened to this example and it has been wrapped in a protective tape material. The cable is however flexible and could be fitted into a Mae West torch pouch easily.
The battery pack is in good condition with most of its paint still intact, marked with a nice large A.M stamp and stores reference number 5A/2728.
Nicely it still has some of the GEC paper label intact. The label shows an airman in the sea with the torch in use and some other information. There is some loss and it's a tad hard to read now. The floating torch section is in good condition as well, still with a clear plastic cover and bulb. The wood section is again in good condition.
Overall a good used torch, ideal for completing your Mae West display, RAF collection, museum, and reenactor display.
