    About this item

A very good Edwardian 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword.

This example produced by Robert Mole, Maker to the War and India Offices. At this point Mole was second only to Wilkinson for producing quality swords, and some, including me, prefer Mole's etching to that of the larger company.

As an Edwardian sword, it can be comfortably dated between 1901-1910.

The regulation 1897 pattern steel guard with crowned ERVII cypher, with domed pommel chequered backpiece. The shagreen grip is complete, and retaining some of the  twistwire binding, although the latter wire is not as firm as it once was.

The single fullered 1892 pattern blade measures 32.5 inches. Along with the Mole address and proof slug, The blade has two plain panels,  and is fully etched including the crowned ERVII cypher, and Royal coat of arms, as well as the usual floral etching.

Housed in its original steel scabbard with twin hanging rings.

Overall condition is good, particuarly the blade, which retains a good amount of original polish, along with minor light rust and old staining, Both hilt and scabbard have an even patina, and would benefit from a gentle clean and polish.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched. Please send this at the time of ordering, to prevent unnecessary delay in your order being dispatched.
