About this item
An impressive and increasingly difficult to find early British artillery round comprising an original QF 13-pounder projectile displayed with its substantial brass cartridge case.
The base of the case carries an excellent selection of original military markings including:
13 PR – I – 1910 – C.F. – VSM – British Broad Arrow and inspection stamps.
The 1910 date makes this a particularly interesting pre-First World War example from the Edwardian British Army, only a few years after the introduction of the 13-pounder field gun.
The QF 13-pounder was the principal field gun of the Royal Horse Artillery at the outbreak of the First World War. Period ammunition used a solid-drawn brass cartridge case, with surviving examples now popular with Great War and artillery collectors.
The projectile retains a particularly attractive untouched dark finish with brass/copper fittings, while the cartridge case has developed a lovely aged patina. We have deliberately left this unpolished.
A superb substantial display piece with considerably more collector interest than the much more commonly encountered WWI 18-pounder cases.
Condition: Good original aged condition with surface wear, oxidation, marks and patination consistent with age and military use. Please study photographs.
