About this item
Always the source of great amusement as a desk ornament or centrepiece at a dinner party, this is a completely inert Hertz Mine Horn Detonator for a range of German Sea Mines.
Used I believe in both wars these were fitted to the Kriegsmarine EMA 150kg, EMB 220kg, EMD 150kg, FMB 120kg, FMC and EMC Mines.
The lead Horn is attached to a steel base with sealing washer which screws into the Mine itself and originally would have contained a vial of acid which was broken on impact, detonating the explosive.
Overall condition is very good with a slight bend to the lead Horn and surface rust to the base.
