About this item
An original and scarce early 1930s German camping and scouting set comprising a forged hand axe, matching stag-handled knife and original leather combination frog.
The axe bears the desirable 'Der Pfeifenraucher' (The Pipe Smoker) Solingen maker's trademark, depicting a bearded man smoking a pipe, a recognised pre-war trademark associated with quality German edged tools. Both axe and knife are fitted with attractive natural stag antler grips separated by brass and coloured fibre spacers, while the leather carrier remains complete and displays an excellent aged patina.
Produced during Germany's vibrant inter-war outdoor movement, this type of set was intended for hiking, camping and scouting rather than military service. It represents the high standard of craftsmanship for which Solingen became internationally renowned.
A superb display piece offering excellent originality and considerable visual appeal, ideal for collectors of German scouting memorabilia, pre-war outdoor equipment or quality Solingen edged weapons.
