WW1 British War Medal To KIA Samuel W Burton, Hampshire Reg

For sale is a WW1 British War Medal To Samuel W Burton Who served with the royal Hampshire regiment. He was killed in action in Shrewsbury Forest in Ypres. 

  This ww1 British war medal is engraved on the rim “25154 Pte S W Burton Hamps R”.   Samuel Walter Burton was born in 1881, and was born in Christchurch. Samuel was the husband of Eliza Crutcher, in which they lived at 15 Pound Lane in Christchurch.    Unfortunately whilst Samuel was serving in Shrewsbury forest in Ypres he was killed in action on the 26th of September 1917. Amongst the research is a scan of the 14th battalion hampshire regiment war diary for the 23rd to the 27th of September (the days leading up to and after his death). The day of the 26th of September states the following “26th September-Shrewsbury Forest- Battalion attacked at 5:30am, 1st Objectives Tower Hamlets and 2nd Objectives Tower Trench. Heavy casualties through M.S Aire. Objectives were reached and held and demolition carried out on own side of tower trench. Casualties major goldsmith died of wounds, killed captain t r Nicholas, lieutenant Bainbridge, 2/Lieutenant B A winton, wounded 2/lieutenant H O Sangster, 2/Lieutenant R N Butt, 2/Lieutenant Barras, 2/Lieutenant Thomas. Other ranks 41 killed, 113 wounded, heavy shelling and snipping by enemy all day.”   Samuel was Remembered with Honour At the TYNE COT MEMORIAL Panel 88 to 90. Samuel is also remembered at Christchurch Priory on the ww1 memorial. This can be seen in one of the photos of the medal being held up next to his name!   Samuel was awarded a British war medal, victory medal and posthumously a death plaque. Unfortunately the death plaque and victory medal is missing.    This medal is a very interesting piece of history. Accompanying this medal is 15 scans of his service records.
