About this item

2nd Warwickshire 24th Foot Victorian Officers Waist belt Plate in silver and gilt. Standard pattern clasps, Silver Circlet 2nd Warwickshire Regiment reeded gilt centre with Victorian Crown and numerals 24. In very good condition (slightly over cleaned in my opinion). The 24th are best remembered for the disaster at Isandlwana and the defence of Rorkes Drift in 1879 under Chard and Bromhead. Later became the 2nd Battalion South Wales Borderers. Price includes delivery to a UK address. International shipping is extra.

The 2nd Warwickshire 24th Foot Victorian Officers Waist Belt Plate is a piece of military regalia from the Victorian era, specifically from the late 19th century. The 24th Foot, later known as the South Wales Borderers, was a British infantry regiment. Here’s a bit more detail about it:

Regimental History: The 24th Foot was involved in several significant events during the Victorian era, including the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. The regiment is well-known for its stand at the Battle of Rorke's Drift.

Waist Belt Plate Design: The waist belt plate, also known as a belt buckle or plate, would typically feature the regiment’s insignia. For the 24th Foot, this would include the regimental badge, incorporating the regimental number “24” or “2nd Warwickshire.”

Materials and Craftsmanship: Victorian officers’ waist belt plates were usually made from high-quality materials like brass or silver and could be quite elaborate in their design. They were an important part of the uniform, signifying rank and regimental affiliation.

Collectibility: Such items are highly collectible among militaria enthusiasts. Their value can vary depending on their condition, rarity, and historical significance.
