Fine rare silvered example. Rectangular plate mounted with gilt Garter stars with a pierced strap inscribed “2nd West York Militia” ; with silver rose mounted to domed gilt centre. Reverse retains original fixings, comprising two hooks at the top and two studs at the bottom.; complete with leather liner. Evidence of filled holes to reverse
Raised originally in mid 17th century, reorganised in 1763 with HQ at York. Redesignated 2nd West York Light Infantry in January 1853; became 3rd Bn. West Yorkshire Regiment Friday 1st July 1881.
