About this item
The 79th Cameron Highlanders Officers Waist Belt Plate in bright gilt and silver. A lovely item in great condition.
The central motif, St Andrew standing with his saltire cross, set within a thistle wreath, is exactly the badge the Cameron Highlanders adopted after taking their name in 1806, when the sub-title was added to the 79th of Foot, and kept through the 1881 Cardwell/Childers reforms since the regiment avoided amalgamation.
The gilt-and-silver combination (gilt back plate, white-metal appliqué) is standard for officers' dress belt plates of this regiment, and comparable examples in this bright, well-preserved condition have done well at auction — Spink has sold related Cameron Highlanders officer pieces in the hundreds to low-thousands of pounds range depending on rarity and condition.
