    About this item

An original pair of British Khaki Drill Trousers made in India in 1944 or 1945.

This pattern of trousers came into issue with the British Army and RAF towards the end of the Second World War and feature the cross belt closure to the waist and slash pockets to the hips. Whilst there is no date, these are consistent with wartime dated examples I have had in the past. The material and the galvanised steel buttons are typical traits of wartime manufactured Indian trousers. Indian manufactured Khaki Drill items saw widespread issue with British troops throughout the Second World War in the Middle East, Far East and Italy amongst other places.

The trousers are made from the standard khaki coloured cotton drill material and are cut with a high rise and wide leg as was popular during the 1940s. The fly fastens with buttons and the waist closes with straps which cross over each other -  a style now often referred to as 'Gurkha Pants'. These straps fasten with the correct pattern of chrome plated buckles which feature a single prong.

Inside the trousers the original maker's stamps are still present although they are faded and hard to read. The original owner has marked his name and serial number as A.C.1 Bright which would suggest that the trousers belonged to an RAF Airman.

The trousers are a smaller size which are adjustable at the waist due to the cross belt design. When laid flat they measure -

    Waist - 13"
    Inside leg - 27"
    Outside leg - 39"
    Rise - 13 1/2"
    Rear rise - 16"
    Cuff - 10"

The trousers are in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. They display well and are still very wearable. There are some signs of wear as is to be expected with a vintage pre-owned item such as this. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that these are a vintage, worn pair of trousers which have small issues commensurate with age.

Altogether a good pair of wartime trousers. These would make an excellent addition to any collection!
