    About this item

An original pair of 1945 dated British Army 1940 Pattern (Austerity) Battledress Trousers in good condition.

This pattern of trousers came into service with the British Army in 1942 replacing the earlier 1940 pattern. These are an austerity pattern which don't feature belt loops, covered pocket flaps or tabs to the bottom of the legs as the earlier patterns did. All the pocket buttons are exposed and they were the most prolific pattern to be issued in North West Europe by the end of WW2.

This particular pair have had the First Field Dressing pocket and the map pocket removed from the front of the trousers. This was common practice in the latter part of 1944 and 1945 for 'walking out' uniforms - the uniform worn when on leave or similar. Many soldiers decided to remove these pockets as it was deemed to look smarter.

Inside the trousers the original label is no longer present but there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter' Z' which denotes the year of issue as 1945.

The trousers will suit a 32" waist and when laid flat they measure -

    Waist - 16"
    Inside leg - 32 1/2"

The trousers are in very good condition with limited signs of wear and age. They display well with no serious flaws but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice pair of late war battledress trousers which would be ideal for a best uniform.
