Original 1980s British Military Submariner Wool Roll Neck Jumper

An original British military white coloured wool roll neck jumper dating from the 1980s and in good condition. 

This style of sweater has to be one of the most iconic ever made. From the days of Ernest Shackleton through to the modern day this style has always been popular for outdoors wear due to its warm design. This example, officially designated 'Jersey, Man's' is the same design as those made for the Royal Navy during the Second World War. This timeless classic has remained unchanged for decades and is a staple item of many wardrobes. 

The jumper is made from a white coloured wool and features a ribbed roll-neck which can be worn turned down in different styles. The cuffs and waistband are also ribbed to help them cling tight to the wearer. Reinforcing triangles are fitted to each side of the neck inside the jumper which is usually encountered on military made examples. 

Inside the jumper the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Jersey Man's' along with the size of 2. There are various details pertaining to washing and care below which is the contract number SL33C/417. The maker's name of 'J. Pick & Sons Ltd' is also present at the bottom of the label. This company manufactured woolen jumpers for the British military for many decades. 

The jumper will suit around a 38" - 40 " chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest relaxed - 19 1/2"
Chest - strectched - 20 1/2"
Inside arm - 22"
Outside arm - 21"
Shoulders - 21"
Length at rear - 29 1/2"

The pullover is in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It shows no real signs of wear or use but does have a small hole to the collar and another at the waist as illustrated in the pictures. Overall it displays well and is totally wearable but please study the pictures carefully before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has some flaws commensurate with age.
