    About this item

A scarce pair of original 1945 Indian made British Army Battledress battledress Trousers in good condition.

These trousers were made in India and are therefore referred to as 'theatre made'. A huge amount of uniform and equipment was produced in India during the war and saw issue with British and Commonwealth units throughout the war, particularly in North Africa, Italy and the Far East due to shorter or more direct supply lines.

The trousers are typical of Indian made items featuring crude stitching and galvanised iron buttons throughout, save for the dressing pocket which has an organic button. The serge wool and lining material are also typical of Indian made items from this period. The pattern is a direct copy of the British 1940 pattern which has a fly covered map pocket and rear pocket and a double pleated First Field Dressing pocket to the left hip. There are no belt loops or ankle tabs however, most likely omitted as an austerity measure.

Inside the trousers the original markings are still present and include the circular date stamp which is usually found on Indian made clothing. The date of January 1945 is printed as '1 45' with a broad arrow inbetween and the maker's name of 'SHAH' is also present. Adjacent to this is a size stamp which reads 17.

The trousers are a large size which will suit around a 25" waist and when laid flat measure -

    Waist - 17 1/2"
    Rise - 17"
    Rear rise - 20 1/2"
    Inside leg - 32 1/2"
    Outside leg - 47"
    Cuff - 9 1/2"

The trousers are in good condition for their age and are still very wearable. There are a couple of very small holes below the First Field Dressing pocket which are illustrated in picture 5. These are only noticeable under close inspection and do not detract from how the trousers display. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that these are a vintage pair of pre-worn trousers.

A fantastic original pair of rare Indian made battledress trousers in great condition.
