The PZL 23 Karas was an aircraft developed for its time, but quickly became obsolete. Like the Fairey Battle, the PZL 23 was a Light Bomber, used for level or shallow dive bombing attacks. For the Polish the PZL 23 was used as a observation plane and an infantry support bomber. Like other Light Bombers they were heavy and slow, making it an easy target for newer fighter planes. It was also the victim of the inability of manufacturers to produce powerful enough engines for the aircraft being produced. Without fighter escort Light Bombers of both the Royal Air Force and the Polish Air Force suffered heavy losses during the opening months of World War II. This is an excellent book for the military historian or the model builder. It had plenty of illustrations and photographs for the prototypical modeler.
