Pagination: 16

Format: Softback

Condition: Excellent

1st Edition.

It’s a good 16-pages book(including the front and back covers). Three pages describe the design development history of the airplane. There are three pages of color renderings. The remainder of the text describes the uses of the plane. It was used in civilian service by individuals for private flying, aero clubs, flying schools, private instructional flying, aerial crop spraying, aerial fertilizer application, air taxis, and air circuses or aerobatics. Starting in the mid-1930s, it was used as a primary trainer for air forces in Britain, South Africa, Australia, Canada, Kenya, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, and Dutch East Indies. It was also used in conversions to simulate WW I airplanes in movies such as “Lawrence of Arabia” and “The Blue Max.”

The text is accompanied by many black and white photos. There is as short tabulation of specification data and performance characteristics. It was a small and apparently docile-handling airplane: empty weight = 1100 lbs (500 kg); all-up weight = 1825 lbs (830 kg); cruising speed = 90 mph (150 kph); maximum speed = 104 mph (170 kph). Several different engines were used in various models, ranging from 125 to 145 horsepower.

There is a two-pages center spread of renderings showing various color schemes applied to the fuselages. Some of them were quite striking: bright yellow, green, red, blue, red and white checkered (chequered?), black and silver, black and cream.
