    About this item

An original pair of British Army Dispatch Rider's Boots dating from 1941 - The first year of production.

Following the withdrawal through France and Belgium in the spring of 1940, it was determined that more specific clothing for motorcyclists wa needed. This pattern of boots was developed for wear with breeches and became the standard uniform of 'Don R's' for the rest of the war. The bottom half of the boot is the same as the standard British Army ammuniiton boot which was introduced into service in 1936. They are made from a black coloured leather which featues a pebbled finish. They have a toe cap as well as leather soles and heels. The heels feature a metal 'horse shoe' of the same design as was used on the ammunition boot and the right boot features a metal plate to the instep which is design to reduced wear from using the kick start on a motorcycle. The front of the boots fasten with laces and there is a section at the top which features three bukles and straps which is one of the notable attribute of this pattern.

Inside the boots feature the maker's name of G. T. Hawkins is present - A Northampton based company. The size of 7L is also present as is the 1941 date.

The boots are in excellent condition as can be seen in the pictures. They don't appear to have seen any real use or wear and display very well. There is very limited wear to the soles as seen in the pictures but overall they display very well indeed. Please take time to study the pictures before purcahsing and bear in mind that theu are a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice pair of boots which are in excellent condition and date from the first year of manufacture which makes them a collectible in their own right.
