About this item

A good pair of original RAF 1941 pattern flying boots which are a size 9.

This pattern of boots came into issue with the RAF during the Second World and were particularly popular with Bomber Command, earning the nickname 'bomber boots'.

This particular pair is in fairly good condition with some signs of age and wear. The suede uppers are in good shape overall and are soft and pliable. The sheepskin lining is mostly intact with some loss inside the boots. The rubber galosh section which joins the boots and soles is in good condition with only a very limited amount missing. The soles and heels are also in good condition and are the original factory fitted 'Itshide' branded examples.

Both boots retain their original zippers, one of which is marked with a 'W' to the front and the War Department broad arrow to the rear whilst the other is marked 'Lightning'. This style of zips are commonly found on this pattern of boots and they both work well. Both the ankle straps are still present and are the light coloured vegetable tan which is usually seen on this pattern. There is some dryness and limited cracking which is only noticeable on close inspection.

The leather flap which sits behind the zipper on each boot bears the size of 9 and the War Department broad arrow marking. There is also an Air Inspection Department ink 'A.I.D' stamped onto the flap.

The boots are in good condition and display well overall. There is some broken stitching across the vamp of the left boot as well as to the rear of the same boot. The leather tongue which sits behind the zipper has also lost quite a lot of its stitching but is still in place. These are a pre-worn pair of boots which have some flaws. Please take time to study these before purchasing bear bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have other small issues commensurate with age.

Altogether a good pair of boots which display and have been priced down to reflect their condition.

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
