About this item

WW2 RAF 39 PATTERN FLYING BOOTS - Sz7 - Dated /39 - Battle of Britain period. Lovely set of these iconic Battle of Britain period flying boots, based very closely on the earlier al lather 1936 pattern flying boots. The construction, shape, and design is pretty much identical, but I believe as leather was becoming a scarce and high demand resource, these boots were manufactured with a light khaki canvas upper.

This pair survivng in very nice, lightly used condition. The canvas sections on both boots show some light wear, with a small area of damage to the top edges, but no real wear and tear apart from what you'd expect from use. Both leather buckles and straps are in good condition, other examples having a simpler canvas strap aswell. Inside the sheepskin is in very good condition and very clean. Both boots are nicely A.M. marked on the pullers, marked as Size 7, and with the date of /39 in both boots. The other pull tabs are also marked with A.I.D inspection stamps.

The shoe sections are again in good condition, with no major wear or damage we can see. The left shoe section has some more light surface cracking than the right boot, but again, the leather is strong and has survived well for 87 years. To the soles, it does look like they retain their original wartime soles, again only with minimal wear from use.

Overall, a great pair of boots, ideal for any RAF museum, collection, display, or reenactor use!
