About this item

WW2 RAF 1943 PATTERN "ESCAPE" BOOTS. As the name suggests, these escape boots were designed as flying boots, which, if the wearer found themselves downed in an enemy-occupied country, could be turned into very simple dress shoes by removing the top section. An ingenious design from the brain of MI9 escape specialist Christopher Clayton Hutton, responsible for so many Allied escape tools and equipment.

This pair is in good used condition. The suede sections on both boots show some light wear, with a small area of damage as photographed on the left boot. We are unsure if this is maybe some small rodent damage, but regardless, it does not detract when the boots are displayed. Other than that, they are in very nice condition, both buckles and straps are in good condition, as are both zips, nicely A.M. marked on the pullers. Both zips are in good working condition as well.

The shoe sections are again in good condition, no major wear we can see, bar some scuffing to the toe sections. To the soles, it does look like they retain their original wartime soles, which have had some "REDFEARN" soles added, some light damage, but they are original. Please see the photos for the condition.

We estimate them to be a size 9. Inside the sheepskin is in very good condition and very clean.

Overall, a good pair of boots, ideal for any RAF museum, collection, display, or reenactor use!
