About this item
WW2 USAAF A-6A FLYING BOOTS. The standard flying boots as worn by nearly all USAAF aircrew during WW2 and into the early post-war period. These could be worn on their own with additional socks and electrically heated inserts, or sometimes worn over normal dress shoes as well.
This pair are in pretty good used condition overall, the nature of shearling means it often suffers damage, ripping, tearing, etc. These have survived quite well all things considered. The sheepskin shearling has a few thin spots and one small tear to the right boots as photoed. with only very minor loss in areas to the brown chromed finish. The zips are both in good working condition albeit a bit stiff, marked "CROWN" on the puller. The leather straps and buckles on both boots are a bit tired and the leather is somewhat dry and cracked. However, they are not ripped or broken and still do up and undo just fine. The boots have a large rubber section and sole, on both boots these are still lovely and soft and pliable without damage or issues we can see. Both boots retain part of the USAAF decal on the side of the boots, with some losses but they are still there and somewhat distinguishable.
Inside the boots, both are labeled with a manufacturer label, made by "BRISTOLITE", size XXL, marked "Shoes: Pilots, (Winter Flying) TYPE A-6A, with AAF stock number. The interior sheepskin is pretty nice and clean, without much loss or damage to report.
Overall a nice set of boots, that would display well in any USAAF museum, collection.
