Robert Lewry was born in Dover, Kent. He enlisted on 9 January 1882 having been a Stoker prior to attesting. He is additionally entitled to an India General Service 1854-95 with clasp Hazara 1888, India General Service 1895-1902 with clasp Punjab Frontier 1897-98 and an Army L.S. & G.C. Medal, he finished his service with the rank of Quartermaster Sergeant
