About this item
A very nice example of an RAF triple signed Longines Wristwatch dating from 1942, in near excellent order, running well and keeping good time.
This is an early example of the Longines watches issued to, predominantly, Navigators due to their superior quality and accuracy, but no doubt on occasions to Pilots as well. These were probably supplied by the agent Baume & Co.
The case measures approximately 35mm including the crown and with a stainless steel case back and crystal (glass) retaining bezel. The strap bars are fixed as was the case with most WW2 British Military watches and the watch comes with a pull through leather strap and a well used but functional strap, closed by folding blades. Of particular importance are the originally engraved markings on the case back, A.M. (Air Ministry) 6B/159 (RAF stores Reference) 9845/42 (date)
The dial is very pleasing and remains clean and clear with minor discolouration in three small area at the extremity of the dial, this not detracting from the appearance. Hands, including the centre sweep seconds hand and winding crown are original to the Watch as is the dial itself.
Inside, the movement is clean and marked Longines Swiss Made 6495567 while the inside of the case back is marked 62253 and 33.
A beautiful and very wearable Wristwatch.
