About this item
A nice example of a British Army Wireless Set No. 38 (WS38) transceiver, complete with its original 1945 dated canvas webbing carry bag. Introduced during the mid-war period, this portable "man-pack" radio was famously used by British and Commonwealth infantry, paratroopers, and commandos to communicate between platoons and companies during major campaigns.
The carry bag still has the stores code ZA26515 stamped on the back. Also has the original 1945 stamp with manufacturer code M4S stamped on the inside. The M in the M4S stands for the manufacturers Michael Wright & Sons who were manufacturers based in the midlands, 4S is a sub code used by the manufacturer. Doe shave the broad arrow stamp as well issued to show its British military property. The canvas is all in good shape, does have very little age-related damage/ wear. Does come with an extra brass quick release buckle that could be used in place of the small pack on the 37-pattern webbing equipment. The cross strap is of signals type with the loops to keep the ground spike in situ.
The No.38 radio doesn’t have any data plates on the top of it. Does have the correct build dimensions and material for a WW2 No. 38 wireless radio. Comes complete with operating knobs. Comes with a throat mic that was used regularly with No.38 wireless sets to communicate. There is some age-related wear to the wireless radio unit, throat mic is in good condition.
Note: This item is untested. It is being sold strictly as a historical artifact, display piece, or restoration project for vintage radio enthusiasts. No guarantee of working operation is implied.
