WW2 RAF/RAAF "ESCAPE AIDS" KIT TIN

WW2 RAF "ESCAPE AIDS" KIT TIN. A nice escape aids kit tin as carried by RAF/RAAF airmen. These kits contained essential items enabling an evader to sustain themselves while avoiding capture.

This is an example of an escape aids kit we've not come across before. Our research leads us to believe this may have been part of a survival kit issued to RAF/RAAF airmen serving in the Pacific/Asian theatre, and possibly of Australian origin.

The yellow tin is similar to the early RAF escape aids tins, which utilized repurposed cigarette tins. A simple tin with a hinged lid. This example has been painted yellow, with a printed list of contents applied to the front. The kit would of orignally held: compass, cigarettes, fishing tackle - consisting of hooks, line and a quill, signalling mirror, soap tin, spare bulb, burning glass and single-bladed razor. Sadly, not all the contents remain, but there is still the fishing kit, with tackle, line and quill. Along with the burning glass and sharpening stone.

Regardless, a very rare survival kit we have not come across before. A truly rare piece of escape equipment, which would grace any RAF collection or museum display.
