Iron Cross 1st Class 1870 maker Godet. ✠ 100% ORIGINAL

Iron Class 1st Class maker marked Godet on the reverse. The cross is of Three piece construction and magnetic.

The Iron Cross 1st Class is a highly regarded German military decoration that was awarded for bravery in combat. A version of this medal with "Godet" marked on the reverse indicates that it was made by the firm J. Godet & Sohn, a renowned jeweller in Berlin. Godet was one of the official manufacturers of various German military awards, including the Iron Cross.

Key Features of an Iron Cross 1st Class by Godet:

Design:

The Iron Cross 1st Class has a distinctive Maltese cross shape.
It typically features a silver or nickel-plated frame with an iron or blackened center.
The front typically shows a raised swastika (for World War II era medals) or an oak leaf cluster (for earlier versions).
The reverse side would often bear the manufacturer’s mark (in this case, “Godet”).

Godet's maker mark on the reverse can be found stamped, and it might be indicated as “GODET” or in some cases accompanied by their trademark logo or number specific to them.

Historical Period:

If it has a swastika on the front, it is from the Third Reich era (1939-1945).
If it lacks a swastika and has a more minimalist design, it could be from World War I or earlier.

Pinback Design:

The Iron Cross 1st Class is usually a pinback badge, with a functional pin on the reverse for wearing on the uniform.
