A very good late war Fairbairn Sykes 3rd Pattern Commando Knife.
Likely an unissued or very lightly used this 3rd pattern carries a pommel inspection marking of "4" It retains a good amount of original finish. It remains untouched since it was found, so a gentle clean would bring out the best in it.
It has a blade length of just under 7 inches. The blade shows light sharpening, and has some old rust. There is a shallow indentation or nick to one side of the blade around an inch back from the point.
The sheath is a correct wartime produced example, in good condition. The reinforcing pad has become detatched and consequently so has the original elastic retaining strap, although this could be replaced if desired.
Overall a very respectable example.
