British First Pattern Skeletal Assault Jerkin Dated 1943 With Mags

A nice First Pattern Skeletal Assault Jerkin dated 1943. This pattern was extensively used on D-Day, being also known as the "Mountain jerkin" as it could also be worn in conjunction with the mountain rucksack or “Bergen" issued to Commandos and Airborne troops.    Made of heavy duty brown canvas and featuring two large slightly curved frontal pouches designed for the carriage of Bren magazines, in reality however much other kit was carried in these. The Jerkin also features an integral loop on the belt to secure a spike bayonet for the No.4 rifle. Closure is via two webbing straps at the front.    After D-Day the pattern was changed slightly, by 1945 the front pouches curved in the opposite direction and the back of the Jerkin was made adjustable for a better fit. Maker marked with broad arrow, size “Medium” and dated 1943 although I did have difficulty in deciding if the last digit was a 3 or 5 but given the design, change it must be a 3. Condition is very good with no damage and just light service wear.   The four Bren Gun Magazines are also in very good lightly used condition.   My final image shows similar Skeletal Assault Jerkins in wear by British Commandos embarking for D-Day, this most visible on the Commando looking directly at the camera.   Overseas buyers.
