Awarded to 834 Private Thomas Gelson of the 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. Queen South Africa Medal (834 PTE. T. GELSON. NORTH’D: FUS:). Clasps Transvaal, Orange Free State and Cape Colony.Service Attestation Papers notes that Private Thomas Gelson joined Her Majesties Armed Forces at Newcastle upon Tyne on 29th January 1885.On joining his civilian occupation is recorded as Plumber. On the 27th January 1902 notes show on attestations papers his military discharge. He was serving with the 4th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers.Further rolls indicate that he was also awarded the Kings South Africa Medal with clasp South Africa1901 and earlier in his career he was awarded India General Service 1854 with Hazara 1888 Clasp. (with copy attestation papers and medal rolls etc.).
