    About this item

A nice original Royal Air Force Officers Peaked Cap which dates from the 1940s and was sold through the Liverpool department store 'Watson Prickard'.

This pattern of cap was worn by RAF officers in the pre-war period and into the post-war years. As it is a private purchase item it is impossible to date exactly but based on the shape and construction it is WW2 period. That said, many stores such as Watson Prickard sold military uniform items during the Second World War due to the hugely increased numbers of servicemen who needed to buy uniform and would point to it being a wartime cap. The shape and construction is typical of other wartime caps I have had and the hat would have been made by a commercial manufacturer who sold into Watson Prickard who had their own labels added.

The hat features a Kings crown bullion cap badge to the front and a black patent leather chinstrap which is held in place with black coloured cloth covered buttons. The cap features the desirable contrasting white stitching around the peak has been shaped in an attractive manner. The interior of the cap features a leather sweatband which is marked 'Real Roam Leather' as if often found on caps made during this period. The original label is also presnt and bears the company name of 'Watson Prickard Ltd' along with the address of 16 North John Street, Liverpool.

The hat is a ____ size which will fit around a size ____ and it measures ____" around the inside circumference.

The overall condition of the cap is very good and is displays nicely. There are some signs of wear and age as can be seen in the pictures. There are a couple of holes to the underside of the peak etc. Please study the pictures before purchasing and remember that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which has some small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original example of an RAF officers hat with a great period label.
