    About this item

For sale is a WW2 REME & RAOC 8th Army Troops Workshop Review Dated December 1943. This is the second issue of the series.

The editorial states: “And so the Baby has its first Christmas. A War-Time Chri-stmas. Toys are scarce, the Cost of Living has gone up, and Clothes are severely rationed. We tried to give the baby a Toy in the way of a Photo Page, but had to satisfy ourselves with the Cartoons instead, - Toys of a slightly less complicated nature, fitting to the Baby's age. Paper, the Clothes, promised to be a difficulty, but the O. C. did some brilliant work on the Black Mar-ket, and came to our rescue. The extra Cost, you have had to bear. In spite of all, the baby has grown, - the nourishment you gave it has borne fruit. We must not forget the grand work of I/Cpl. Lindsay, our Artist who has made the toys for the baby - especially the Cutie and the Frontespiece. Let us remember that this, our baby, may well have to face even harder times than these, and that, fine though our ambitions for it be, not only, to borrow Cutie's words, does " Work unfor-tunately come first, "but the baby's whole existence lies very much in the lap of the Gods, - and those the gods of War. In the Field we must learn to be modest in our ambitions. Congratulations to our popular ex-Officer, Major Ford, on gaining his M.B.E. for work done while with this Unit in the Desart. Also to our Workshop Foreman, A.S.M. Longworth on his award of the B.E.M. for similar services. I have been asked to express the Unit's thanks to our O.C. for his untiring efforts to make life more bearable and cheerful fur us. We have never been so well favoured as in the last few weks. Perhaps it is as well to bear in mind that since enjoying these new comforts and privileges which have been made ours, we have set up our new all-time record for the number ol repairs exe-citer in a week The baby sees its first Christmas in a proud and happy Unit.”   This is in good condition, but the front and back page is a little tatty and the cover has come away from the main book. These are very hard to find with very little of these coming up for sale.    This will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days.
