For sale is a Rare WW2 Royal Air Force No12 Group Intelligence Office Heinkel III Aircraft Recognition Original Watercolour Painting Signed By Harold Wyllie.

  This painting shows the different views of the Heinkel III, with the following words;   “H.E III K. Intelligence Office No12 Group R.A.F. For advanced training in recognition of aircraft under side of aircraft above horizon, upper side of aircraft below horizon.” And is hand signed by Harold Wyllie.    Harold Wyllie was a British artist who was born in 1880. Harold Wyllie's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from 37 USD to 7,021 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 1999 the record price for this artist at auction is 7,021 USD for.    Marine painter, sculptor and engraver, born in London. Was the son of the marine artist William Lionel Wyllie and married the portrait painter Euphans Hilary Strain. Harold Wyllie was intended for the Navy, but failed his examinations and turned to art. In 1898 he went to New York as a special artist for The Graphic, then served in South Africa during the Boer War. For part of World War I he was a pilot with the Royal Flying Corps, then gained a commission in the Army, which he left in 1920 with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Wyllie was then a student with Frank Short, having prior to the war studied with his father, Thomas Graham Jackson and Edwin Austin Abbey, the American painter. Acknowledged as an expert on shipping matters, Wyllie was in 1932 called on to supervise restoration of the Implacable. He studied under his father and shared his fascination with naval history. Harold Wyllie was particularly interested in the development of the sailing ship and devoted himself to in-depth research eventually becoming a recognised expert on the subject. He exhibited at the Royal Institute, at the Royal Academy from 1905-1924, and was a founding member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, of which he was vice-president in 1858. He served as Honourable Marine Painter to the Royal Yacht Squadron, Cowes, from 1934-1946.    There is a label on the back of this painting that states “painting of a German bomber. Used to hang in 12 group ops room 1941-45 Watnal Notts.    This is believed to be the only watercolour painting of German aircraft and is an incredibly rare piece piece of not just art but military history.    This measures 51cm in length x 37.5cm height.    This is an original watercolour and not a print!    The auction can be found via this link.
