    About this item

An original pair of 1944 dated British army camouflage windproof trousers in a size 5.

This pattern of trousers was introduced in 1943 and was based on the earlier drab and snow windproof trousers. These examples are made from a lightweight gabardine fabric and are cut in the same style as the earlier windproofs with a wide leg, drawstring waist and map pocket to the left leg. The seat features a reinforced section and ankle tabs are located to the cuff which fasten with green vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons.

To the rear of the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title 'Trousers, Windproof' and the size of 5. The manufacturer's name 'Lubin & Son Ltd Salford' is present as is the date of February 1944 and the War Department broad arrow marking.

The trousers are designed to be worn over the battledress uniform and are therefore cut in a wide manner. They are intended to fit a 33" - 34"  waist and the drawstring waist allows them to be pulled in a lot. When laid flat they measure -

    Waist - 20"
    Rise - 15"
    Rear rise - 19 1/2"
    Inside leg - 27"
    Outside leg - 41"
    Cuff - 11"

The trousers are in good condition overall with some signs of wear and use. There is wear to each cuff and some repairs as illustrated in the pictures. The legs have been shortened and re-hemed and there is a long repair to the inside of the right leg. This is hard to see as it has been very neatly done but is visible in picture 7. Overall they appear to be very wearable but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that these are a vintage, worn pair of trousers which have small issues commensurate with age.

A good original pair of windproof trousers with a nice clear label and wartime date.
