    About this item

For sale is a Post WW2 United Nations Peacekeeping Forces The Blue Berets Book & Vintage United Nations Patch.

The authors note states;   “This is a guide book to the more prominent of the peacekeeping efforts that the United Nations have mounted during the last three decades. It does no more than briefly describe the causes and effects of each conflict, the conduct of the operations themselves and adds a few basic statistics that can help the reader to count the cost in terms of peace or war. It is neither meant to be a history book nor an educa-fional manual, but it does seek to be regarded through its comprehensive bibliography as a book of reference for those who are interested in the subject of international relations, the objectives of international organizations, and the detailed study of conflict management. The book does not attempt, for obvious reasons of space, to record and analyse the lessons to be learnt from each particular operation or mission, but in the concluding chapter a brief evaluation is made of the machinery of peacekeeping and of its effective working to date. But essentially this is an attempt to set forth in a straightforward and easily digestible form the facts about this greatest and most enduring practical peace effort of all times--a peace effort which should have pride of place in history books; a story of considerable achievement that is not generally known nor appreciated by the vast majority of people in this country, or in the world. It is a record of success rather than failure, for it is in degrees of success that the operations of the UN peace forces and missions can be measured. If it does nothing else, it is hoped that the book will make people aware of the immense contribution that certain individuals and countries have made to the maintenance of international peace for almost thirty years.”   The United Nations, referred to informally as the UN, is an intergovernmental organization whose stated purposes are to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation, and serve as a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations. It is the world's largest international organization. The UN is headquartered on international territory in New York City, and the organization has other offices in Geneva, Nairobi, Vienna, and The Hague, where the International Court of Justice is headquartered.   This is in good condition.    This will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days. Happy to send internationally too.
