About this item
A joint British / American sealed Safe Conduct Pass dropped to German forces during the Italian Campaign. Whilst most of the Passes or Passierschein were of a different style and intended for delivery over North Western Europe, this is the first I have encounter for Italy.
With the facsimile signature H.R. Alexander, Commander in Chief, Allied Armies in Italy (later to become a Field Marshal) it measures 207mm x 127mm and remains in good multi folded condition.
Headed by variations of both the the British and US Seals and SAFE CONDUCT, below which is the text "The German soldier who carries this safe conduct pass is using it as a sign of his genuine wish to give himself up. He is to be disarmed, to be well looked after, to receive food and medical attention as required, and to be removed from the danger zone as soon as possible" with this repeated below in German. Further details appear on the reverse, again in German.
