About this item
For sale is a WW2 1942 Dated Pamphlet Free Legal Aid To Members Of His Majesties Military Forces.
This is in good condition and is a difficult pamphlet to obtain.
The outline of the scheme in the front page states;
“1. In order to meet the difficulties experienced by soldiers and members of the A.T.S. in obtaining, under war conditions, advice and assistance in their civil legal problems, the scheme set out in this pamphlet has been instituted. The success of the scheme depends very largely on the goodwill and public spirit of members of the legal profession, but the Army Council Army are confident that sufficient numbers of serving barristers and solicitors will volunteer to place their professional skill at the disposal of the authorities.
2. Scope of scheme.
The scheme deals with the civil legal problems of the soldier, including divorce. Its function is mainly advisory and the conduct of litigation will not be undertaken. The scheme does not deal with any claim by a soldier on duty against another soldier on duty nor with any matters in any way concerning the military status of the soldier, discipline, criminal law, courts-martial, pay, allowances, nor with anything which affects the soldier qua soldier. These matters will continue to be dealt with through normal channels and those who operate the scheme will not give advice on any of these matters.
The scheme applies to all soldiers and auxiliaries of the A.T.S. up to and including the rank of serjeant, provided that they have not sufficient private resources to employ their own legal advisers.
The scheme does not apply to members of the Home Guard. References in this pamphlet to soldiers include references to auxiliaries of the A.T.S.
In no circumstances will those operating the scheme at the Command Legal Aid Sections or Legal Advice Bureaux men- tioned below handle any money in connection with cases with which they deal.”
This will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days.
