    About this item

A very pleasing and untouched George V 1912 pattern cavalry officers sword, produced by Wilkinson Sword, Pall Mall.

Originally the sword of Lieutenant Colonel E.B. Studd 14/20 Hussars, and after WW2 commanding officer of the Duke of Lancasters OwnYeomanry.

This sword was purchased by Studd in September 1931, and bears the proof number 62761 to the spine.

It was later carried and used by another serving cavalry officer, and was fitted with a new sword knot, so this sword has already seen two lots of service.

The Shagreen grip is entirely complete, and in good condition with service wear. It is bound with its original twistwire.

The large bowl guard is well decorated, and retains a good amount of its original nickel plated finish, and is free from dings and dents. The interior is discoloured, with no original finish remaining. It would benefit from a clean and polish. The distinctive chequered pommel with wreath decoration is also in good condition.

The 35 inch blade carries Wilkinson's makers details to one ricasso, along with thier "best proof" hexagonal proof slug to the other. One escutcheon is vacant, the other bearing the initials "E.B.S." The blade is well decorated with beautiful floral etching, and the George V crowned cypher. Some light rust, and ares of dark staining, particularly to the central section, along with old dirt/grease. The spine with proof number and "Made in England".

Housed in its field service scabbard and complete with original sword frog. It's an excellent fit, generally good condition with some minor scuffs. It has had a professional repair/reinforment at the drag. The frog loop is also a replacement, and is now fragile and in need of further repair.

A completely untouched example, fresh to the market. It will require some light cleaning to bring it back to a good collectors standard, and with the opporunity for further research into its original owner.

Supplied with a digital copy of the Wilkinson Ledger page, confirming the original owner.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
