About this item
1960s RAF MK1A BONEDOME FLYING HELMET SET. A nice complete set with its inner G-type helmet, and H-type oxygen mask. The MK1A helmet being introduced in the 60s it was the first protective helmet fitted with a visor on a retractable rail. Iconic in so many images of RAF airmen from the 1960s, including the V Force crews. The Mk1A helmet was used well into the 80s, and even favoured by some fast jet pilots. A truly iconic RAF helmet!
The MK1A helmet itself looks to be in pretty good condition. The outer paint is in pretty good condition. There is a small crack to the rear of the helmet, most likely from service use or age-related wear. Regardless, it does not detract from the helmet when displayed. The visor has a few small surface scratches, but it's not too bad, and it moves nicely and freely on the rail. The helmet comes with its original visor cover as well. The helmet is complete with a correct chinstrap as well. Inside, we find it is labeled, marked as a size 2, stores reference number 22C/2116, and dated /62 with a broad arrow. A pretty nice example!
The set also comes with a good-condition G-type inner helmet, again in good complete condition with wiring, jack plug, and earphones. It is marked inside on the label as a size 3 with stores reference number 22c/1731, dated /65, and with a broad arrow once again. Attached to the G-type helmet is a good, used H-type mask, dated to the side /64. No issues with the rubber; it's in great condition.
All 3 pieces are coming in a nice RAF Issue helmet bag as well. A Lovely set ideal for any RAF helmet collection, museum, or display.
