    About this item

WW2 RAF 1ST PATTEN C-TYPE FLYING HELMET. A nice example of the 1st pattern C-type flying helmet as used by RAF, USAAF, and Commonwealth aircrew.

A good used example of the 1st pattern C-type flying helmet, the leather of the helmet is dark brown in color. It is still soft and supple but a tad dry. It would most likely come up nice with some leather dressing.  The helmet with all 4 straps, press studs and buckle to the rear, all in good condition. To the front, we find all 6 press studs in place for attaching an oxygen mask, also fitted is the oxygen mask hook in good condition. The chinstrap and buckle are again in good condition, still with the metal V plate on the end of the strap. Finally, on the exterior both original rubber earcups are in place and in good condition, these are still soft and pliable. They will accept RAF earphones or USAAF pattern earphones with ease.

Inside, the chamois lining shows signs of light use but is relatively clean. There are a few small holes to the chamois of the ear donuts but nothing to be concerned about. The helmet is nicely labeled, with an A.M. crown label, size 3, and stores reference number 22C/451. Size wise we would estimate it to be a size 56 UK hat size. Overall a good entry-level 1st pattern C-type flying helmet, ideal for an RAF museum, collection, or display.
