Original WW2 Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm C Type Flying Helmet - Size 2

An original Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm C Type flying helmet dating from the Second World War period.

This pattern of helmet was introduced for Royal Navy pilots and aircrew in the mid war period. This helmet features three goggle straps to the rear which denote this as the pattern produced up until late 1944 when it was replaced with the five strap version. This confirms that this helmet is an original wartime produced example. It is essentially the same helmet as the RAF C Type flying helmet but features the zipped ears from the earlier B Type flying helmet. These ears can be fitted with sponges to aid in extra sound deadening which was obviously a feature the Royal Navy wished to retain - possibly due to fact they were still using some aircraft with open cockpits, such as the Fairey Swordfish. 

The overall condition of the helmet is good and it displays quite well. The ear pieces feature their original zips which function as they should and both retain their original leather pull tabs. The leather exterior has some flaws as illustrated in the pictures and some of the pop studs are broken although these could be reinstated. These flaws have been reflected in the greatly reduced price. The interior of the helmet is good showing signs of wear or use. The chamois is darkened in places from use which is typical of a helmet which has seen service use.  Overall it is a good example but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age. 

Overall a displayed original wartime FAA C-type flying helmet which could benefit from some light restoration.
