About this item
An original pair of 1957 dated Household Cavalry No.3 Dress Khaki Drill Trousers in a size 20.
This pattern of trousers was produced alongside a matching KD tunic and is specific to the Household Cavalry. The trousers are cut in the 'overall' style which is a shape used by British cavalry regiments since the Victorian period. They are made in a tan-khaki coloured cotton drill material as was regularly used for tropical military clothing during the mid Century period. The trousers feature a narrow leg which have small buttons at the cuff along with a flat front and high rise waist with a 'fishtail' to the rear. The fly fastens with buttons and more buttons are positioned around the waist to which braces can be attached .
Inside the trousers the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Trousers No.3 Dress Household Cavalry' below which is the size of 20. The maker's name of 'James Smith & Co (Derby) Ltd' is present as is the 1957 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.
The trousers will suit up to a 38" waist depending on desired fit and when laid flat they measures -
Waist - 19"
Rise - 14 3/4"
Rear rise - 21"
Inside leg - 33 1/2"
Outside leg - 45 1/2"
Cuff - 8 1/2"
The trousers are in excellent condition with no signs of wear or use. Overall they display very well and are totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A very nice pair of British military trousers from the 1950s which are in excellent condition.
