About this item
WW2 RAF 2ND PATTERN C-TYPE FLYING HELMET. A really nice 2nd pattern C-type flying helmet, as used and worn by RAF, USAAF, and Commonwealth aircrew during WW2.
A really nice helmet this one, showing signs of very little use or wear. The exterior leather is in very nice soft, supple condition. No splits, cracks, or holes we can see. Possibly only a tad dry and could benefit from some leather dressing, otherwise very nice leather considering its age. The helmet has 4 straps to the rear and the goggle strap buckle in place, all in good condition. To the front of the helmet again all press studs and in-built mask hook are present and in good condition. The chinstrap retains a good amount of elasticity and is not stretched or damaged we can see, press stud again in place and it is undamaged. The helmet is fully wired with an internal wiring loom, all in excellent condition. The jack plug is also in good undamaged condition. Inside both rubber earcups, we find a good pair of helmet receivers, again with no damage or issues to report. Both are marked with store reference number 10A/13466.
Inside we find a lightly used and soiled chamois interior, exhibiting no damage we can see. Both chamois ear donuts are in good condition too. The helmet appears to be unmarked, but we estimate the size to be approximately a size 57 UK hat size. Overall a good flying helmet, ideal for display with some goggles and a mask! Befitting of any RAF museum, collection, or display.
