About this item
Very nice 1914 Iron Cross First Class by Carl Dillenius, with 800 silver marked frame and complete with its original case of issue.
The Cross is in very good condition, the black finished iron core and vaulted frame without damage and clearly marked 800 on the reverse. Hinge, pin and catch remain undamaged, the frame having taken on an attractive patina.
Manufactured from black textured leatherette covered light wood with a blue velvet and off white artificial silk lining, the case is again free from damage the silk separator in place. Silver foil impression of an Iron Cross to the outer lid with the rare 1914/15 date. This indicates that it is an early type case, Imperial Germany at the time believing they were able to win the war within two years. The base is slotted for fitment of the pin.
Excellent set, now difficult to find.
